Week 31

Highlights of our week:

Service trip to Walker Nursing Home:  We made may day baskets to give the residents after we shared our gift of song with them.  Very special day.

Field trip to the Minnesota Institute of Arts:  We went on a guided tour with a docent and found pieces of art work from all the continents that also represented one of the animal groups.  After lunch we went on a scavenger hunt in small groups to see how many different animals we could find and graphed our results.

We introduced the children to the atlas.  They worked with a parter to explore the atlas.  In small groups we worked on our ipads on an atlas app.  Very cool!

We continue to have daily math practice with some of our core concepts that were taught this year such as addition, subtraction and place value.  In addition, we are learning about solid shapes.

We have started our final writing unit of the year:  persuasive writing.  We learned that writers use their words to make a change in the same way that a magician uses a magic wand.  We looked closely at ways to make Breck School the best it could be.  Each child made a poster or sign that is hung up around our school.  A few examples are:  walking in the hallway, pushing in chairs and not wasting food.  As your child what their poster was about!
