Weeks 6 & 7

We are finishing up our shapes and patterns unit in math.  The children are getting really good at noticing patterns around them and they are classifying and sorting shapes and objects in a variety of ways.  Here are a few children making pattern necklaces and crowns!
Guided reading began as well as our 2nd writing unit:  Looking up closely... writing like a scientist.  We learned that writers are like scientists who notice what is around them and write about it to teach others.  We took a nature walk on campus and collected a variety of objects in nature (leaves, sticks, branches, rocks).  We use these items during writing workshop by recording what we notice about size, shape, color, texture, etc.

The highlight of our week was meeting our Biobuddies for the first time.  Our Biobuddies will be helping us as scientists this year as we study the human body.  Since we have been learning about the 5 senses, we used all 5 senses during a pumpkin carving activity together and recorded our observations.  Hopefully you enjoyed meeting your child's Biobuddy on Seesaw!
