Week 8

Although it was a short week... a lot of learning took place!
  • We introduced the children to their own book boxes.  Each child shopped for "just right" books to keep in their boxes.  They now use book boxes during reading workshop.  Ask your child who their reading buddy is!
  • We learned our first word family.  Ask your child a word that lives in the -at house.
  • While learning the handwriting form of numerals... we are also beginning to learn about number sense.  This will be a major focus throughout the year; to ensure children have the foundational skills and understanding of numerals so that they are capable of higher level math computation.
  • We started learning about one of our major social studies themes:  Life Long Ago.  To kick off this unit of study, we went on our first field trip to The Landing.  We learned about games children played long ago, about homes children lived in and we visited the general store in town.  We will dig deeper into this concept through the month of November.
