Week 5

The highlight of our week has been the 5 senses study.  Each day we have focused on a different one of our senses.

Hearing:  We kicked off this unit with our listening walk last week (see previous blog entry).

Taste:  We did a taste test of 4 different items (sour patch kid, marshmallow, unsweetened chocolate & veggie straw).  The children labeled the item either sour, bitter, sweet or salty.

Touch:  We made texture collages.  Hopefully you enjoyed hearing your child describe their work on seesaw.

Smell:  We used smelly markers and went from table to table smelling 12 different scents.  As a whole group we identified our markers and matched them with the correct scent.

Sight:  We used our eyes to examine items on our tray.  We closed our eyes and when we opened them, an object was missing that we had to figure out.  The challenge came when we took away two or three objects!

As a concluding activity... to use all 5 senses at once... we did a popcorn activity.  First, we listened and smelled as we watched the popcorn pop.  As we ate our popcorn we described how it felt and tasted.  YUMMY and FUN!

Thank you to those who have already filled out the conference feedback form and signed up for a conference time.  If you haven't had a chance, please do so by Monday.  Thank you!

  1. I could tell from the faces that there were some smells and tastes kids really liked and others they really DIDN'T like!
